Yanmar introduces new 8LV engine

Yanmar has developed a new 4.46 litre twin-turbo V8 diesel engine, coupled to a sterndrive or gearbox. The 8LV will be offered at 320 mhp (239 kW) and 370 mhp (272 kW). The engine is EPA Tier 3 compliant. It will be shown to the public for the first time at the 2011 Düsseldorf Boat Show and in the US at the Miami International Boat Show.

The compact 8LV diesel can be installed in single or twin configuration, with the new, hydrodynamic Yanmar ZT370 dual propeller sterndrive or KMH50 series transmission, down angle or V-drive.

It has a twin turbocharger and common rail fuel injection for superior performance in terms of fuel economics and acceleration. There are four valves per cylinder. In the Yanmar tradition of high power from low weight, dry engine weight is just 450 kg.

This is the first engine to use Yanmar's own, newly developed CAN-bus vessel control system, the Yanmar VCS. It can be ordered with the new joystick, facilitating 360º turn, sideways and diagonal movement.

A key feature of the high torque 8LV is its wide power band. It idles at 550 rpm, capable of crawling speed in the marina, aided further by a hydraulic clutch, with both sterndrive and gear configurations. Maximum engine speed is 3,800 rpm – well ahead of other engines in this segment.

Further benefits are exceptionally low noise levels and minimized vibration, ease of installation and servicing, and the advantage of a powerful 12V / 180A alternator. The 8LV is expected to attract a wide variety of boat builders producing craft up to 45-feet (14 metres) for applications ranging from water skiing to cruising. Additionally, the engine will be used for repowering, offering the advantages of diesel over similar-sized V8 gasoline units.

Now, boat owners can easily replace outdated gauge and ignition panels by converting traditional analog data to modern J1939 or NMEA 2000 data.  Designed for JH, YM and LP Yanmar diesel engines, the state-of-the-art Mas-Technologies M200 Series Monitoring System from Mastry Engine Center offers a simple plug'n'play installation.

With an integrated engine start/stop capability and Secure Start engine security, the innovative 12-volt M200 Series Monitoring System provides detailed digital engine data.  It measures battery voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, boost pressure, engine speed, fluid level and rudder angle on an easy-to-read M701 display.  The flexible display configuration features soft function keys and adjustable contrast and backlight.

Designed for the harsh marine environment, the M200 Series Monitoring System installs easily and quickly as the M200 Engine Interface connects and mounts directly to JH and LP engines.  Providing NMEA CANBus power, the advanced system also includes a plug'n'play engine to helm harness, main and second helm rocker switch ignition panels, VDO sender inputs and configurable US/Euro fluid level sensors.  Convenient alarms signal low battery voltage, oil pressure and coolant level, as well as high coolant temperature, water in the fuel and other important information.  A maintenance timer alerts owners when service is required and a time-stamped alarm log makes referencing past alarms simple.

The user-friendly Mas-Technologies M200 Series Monitoring System from Mastry Engine Center has suggested retail pricing starting at just $1,469.  Rocker and key ignition panels with glow, auxiliary fluid inputs (water and waste) and other optional features are also available.
