3JH40 40HP
YANMAR sailing and smaller craft engines deliver the high-end performance and unequaled reliability associated with over 100 years of innovation. With the largest global support network in the marine engine industry and delivering 5x Best in Class features associated with common rail technology, YANMAR engines have become the global standard in sailboat and small craft propulsion.
About the 3JH40
YANMAR introduces the 3JH40 as the world’s smallest common rail inboard marine diesel engine in displacement, dimensions, and weight.
The 3-cylinder 3JH40, with an output of 40 mhp, will enable a whole new category of smaller leisure boat owners and commercial vessel operators to benefit for the first time from the efficiency and performance advantages associated with the most recent electronically-managed CR fuel-injection technology.
With an output of 40 MHP @ 3000 rpm (29.4 kW @ 3000 rpm), the 3JH40 is the smallest common rail inboard marine diesel in:
- Displacement, with only 3 cylinders measuring 1.642 L (100 cu in)
- Physical size, measuring 774 x 580 x 632mm
- Weight, measuring 192kg without gear
Through common rail technology, the 3JH40 offers minimal fuel consumption and exceptionally low noise and emission levels, exceeding EPA Tier 3 and EU RCD Tier 2 emission regulations for virtually smoke and odor-free operation.
The 4-stroke, water-cooled 3JH40 is an ideal solution for new builds and repowering applications, specifically monohull sailing yachts and catamarans up to 45ft, small motor boats or sloops, and light duty commercial craft.
*The next largest common rail inboard marine diesel engines are the YANMAR 4JHCR line: 45, 57, 80, 110 MHP.
About Common Rail Technology
As a leading diesel engine manufacturer, YANMAR integrates the most advanced common rail technology into our innovative marine engines.
Common rail technology is a digitally controlled, high-pressure fuel injection and sensor system that optimizes engine efficiency & performance. This results in reduced emissions, minimal noise, and peak power output, significantly improving the engine’s overall efficiency and comfort onboard.
Multiple sensors throughout the engine intelligently feed operating conditions and performance requirements to the ECU. The system monitors the throttle position, various temperatures, rail and pressure, intake air pressures, and both crank and cam positions. Based on the feedback from the sensors, the ECU regulates fuel from the supply pump into a single high-pressure fuel rail and digitally activated injectors. This controls precisely when and how much fuel to inject. A common rail system can supply between one and five injections to each cylinder over the course of a cycle, rather than one single injection in a mechanically controlled fuel system.
Originally developed to meet strict automotive emissions regulations, the common rail technologies used in YANMAR’s marine engines have been custom marinized by YANMAR, specific to each YANMAR model and meeting YANMAR’s strict engineering standards. This brings you the latest technology in marine diesel engineering and our collection of 5x Best in Class engines.
